about me

My Story

Hey there! 👋 I'm Ali, an experience designer and researcher on a mission to reshape the future of digital nomad life.

I'm available to partner with nomad-focused organizations, tourism boards, and communities to create meaningful spaces where people forge deeper connections — both to incredible places and to each other.

Think of me as your go-to question-asker, puzzle-solver, and community builder for all things #digitalnomad.

Curious about how I ended up here? Cool, read on...

The Office to Remote Era

My journey starts where most do, feeling stuck. In this case my "stuck" was in an office in a traditional 9-5 life. I had moved from Washington D.C., where I was a “Jill of All Trades” for an international tech start-up, to a trendy part of Brooklyn, with my own apartment and my “dream” job.

Spoiler alert: It was not my dream job.

Despite all this traditional success, I wanted more, or maybe just different.

I had dreams (albeit somewhat cliché ones looking back) of trading in Madison Avenue for Machu Picchu, which I did during the summer of 2014. That marked the last time I would work in an office, or move to a city because a job told me I had to.

The "Go, Go, Go!" Nomad Era

For the next decade, my work revolved around helping companies and teams work better together, from a company culture and remote work perspective. First, as the Director of People for a fully remote company, then as an independent consultant and author. I did this while nomading full-time and with a base. At one point, I was working a full-time job while traveling to a new country every month!

Professionally, I rolled out new company benefits while slurping ramen in Tokyo, managed an organization restructure from beaches in Spain, and facilitated leadership meetings from Colombia.

I realized it was not about where the work was getting done...

but how.

Personally, I learned a lot about myself: I did some inner work, and discovered what I liked to do for fun, and what my core values are.

I met amazing people, experienced new cultures, and tried new foods!

I doubled down on remote work during the Covid-19 pandemic. My biggest fear was that if remote work was treated as a scapegoat, others would never be able to experience the personal benefits that make my digital nomad life so special.

Over the past few years, I was named a Top 50 "Remote Accelerator," (2022-2024), a "Top Remote Work Influencer in USA," and a "Must-Follow Remote Work Expert in 2023".

My book, Remote Works, launched as a #1 New Release in Organizational Change & Business Management Science on Amazon.

The Connecting the Dots Era

And that brings us to today.

After facing some struggles and feelings of disenchantment with modern business and the people operations field, I grew bored by the "Return to Office" narrative. I grappled with my nomadic identity while having a base in a foreign country, struggling to fit in to the "expat" label.

I reconnected to my why, and I realized that being a digital nomad is a state of mind heart.

I realized the power of a community dinner, the feeling of home you can have when you enter a great coliving space, and the unique flutter of excitement when you fall in love with your new surroundings. I've seen how nomads can add value to these places — by enhancing off-season tourism, traveling slower, being intentional, and giving back to local communities.

Now, I spend my time capturing those feelings and helping design these life-changing experiences for others.
